Rangers expected to have new manager in coming weeks
Rangers are expected to up the tempo in their task to find a new manager before the trip to Celtic Park next month. Under 20s manager Graeme Murty has been in caretaker charge for the last two games.
The board are likely to hire an interim manager until the end of the season if the man they are after is not available immediately.
It is reported that Rangers have a six-man shortlist for the roles of manager and director of football but have received over 60 ‘serious’ applications for just the manager position.
Interviews are to start taking place this week, but there will be no panic appointment after their shocking 2-1 defeat to sixth place Dundee.
Should the board find the right man to take over straight away then he will be in place for the match against rivals Celtic on March 12th.
If not it is understood they will appoint someone to work alongside Murty until the end of the season. They could even be appointed before Friday night’s clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
There is also the possibility of the director of football position being hired first and that person helping with the recruitment of a manager.
The role of head of recruitment also needs filled but the new director of football will have a large input in that appointment.
