Who is Rangers’ new signing Alfredo Morelos?
Rangers have completed the signing of Alfredo Morelos from HJK Helsinki on a three-year contract. The fee is believed to be around £1 million. But who is the new Rangers striker?
The Colombian started his footballing career at Independiente Medellin in his home country, where he made his debut at the age of 17. However, he only made 14 appearances in his first season at the club and only 11 more in the next season. What followed was a move to Finnish club HJK Helsinki on loan.
The player had an immediate impact, racking up 43 appearances and managing to score 30 goals in the process. Most of these goals came in the domestic league, where his team finished third. With this great first season completed the club decided to activate the clause in his contract to sign the forward permanently.
Before the switch to Glasgow, Morelos made 19 appearances and scored 16 goals for Helsinki. The player is likely to give Rangers a fresh approach with the striker likely to make his debut next Thursday night. Rangers were drawn against Progres Niederkorn from Luxembourg in the Europa League qualifiers. The first leg takes place at Ibrox on June 29th.
About the move, Morelos said:
I want to show the fans here what I did every day in Finland. Also to grow more as a player and as a person.
I did some research on the internet about the history and games. This is a really big club and they’ve played in really big tournaments.
I want to do things the best way and try to do well in very match and every training session.
I know it won’t be easy, it’s going to be difficult because other team-mates will also be focused on this too.
The most important thing is that I score goals – when the opportunity is there, I score.
This is not the first signing of Rangers’ season with the club already bringing in five other fresh faces. Although this looks like it won’t be the last of the transfer activity.
Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera have yet to complete their deals due to their work permits. Rumours are still circulating that Graham Dorrans and Jamie Walker remain on Pedro Caixinha’s shortlist. Both players have had bids rejected in recent weeks.
