# “Led by example”, “Never a Rangers captain” Mixed reaction from fans on Tavernier’s performance

“You were so off the pace”, “What a captain” – Some Rangers fans are undecided about James Tavernier’s performance on Sunday against Kilmarnock.

Tavernier was[heavily involved](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49141676) in both Rangers’ goals – providing [the assist](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49141676) for Connor Goldson’s late winner, and also taking [the corner](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49141676) that ended with Scott Arfield stabbing home.

The 27-year-old has performed well in Europa League Qualifying – providing [three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tavernier/profil/spieler/62094), and he has taken that form into the SPFL.

However, some of the Rangers fans were not impressed with their captain – and they want more from him in the upcoming matches.

Overall, though, it is a mixed reaction to Tavernier’s performance against Kilmarnock.

See the best of the reaction below.

> U were so off the pace today it was unreal..u need to start living upto being a rangers captain. Wouldn't have seen gough or Ferguson with an attitude like that today

These Rangers fans clearly are annoyed at Tavernier – but it feels harsh considering he was directly involved in both of their goals. He was also [superb last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tavernier/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/62094) and represented Rangers brilliantly.

On the other hand, these Gers fans praised their captain for a gutsy performance – despite Steven Gerrard’s side not performing at their best.
