# Glen Kamara has a big role to play for Rangers this season

Glen Kamara is a midfielder player who is [on the rise](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) – last season he came to prominence in Rangers’ second Old Firm win over Celtic at Ibrox.

The 23-year-old [dominated](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) the whole game – and perhaps more importantly won the [midfield battle](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536)against Scott Brown.

This is no mean feat as Brown has caused Rangers [numerous problems](https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/17540591.scott-brown-might-not-be-a-world-class-player-but-is-there-a-bigger-wind-up-merchant-on-planet-football/) in the past – not least getting [Alfredo Morelos](https://talksport.com/football/520178/alfredo-morelos-sent-off-fifth-time-season-rangers-striker-red-card-celtic-scott-brown/) sent off last year.

Kamara [stood up](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) to Brown and was [instrumental](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) in the second goal.

As he weaved his way through the midfield and rolled a ball through to Jermain Defoe – who dummied the ball and allowed [Scott Arfield](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) to score.

Kamara was signed from Dundee FC for [£50,000](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glen-kamara/profil/spieler/242632) last January.

Kamara made [16 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glen-kamara/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/242632/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) last year [scoring once](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glen-kamara/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/242632/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) and providing [three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glen-kamara/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/242632/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=), but he has that [bit of quality](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) in midfield that should allow him to stand out this season for Steven Gerrard’s side.

The reason he will be important though is because he is a[box-to-box midfielder](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) and those driving runs will propel his [side forward](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) – as well as allowing him to [cover ground](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) in his half.

The fact he [out-performed](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/is-rangers-midfielder-glen-kamara-the-signing-of-the-season-1-4926536) Brown, who is one of the [best players](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43944186) in the division, suggests that if Kamara gets a good run in the team then, he could play a massive role in any potential [Rangers title push](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/steven-gerrard-convinced-rangers-can-16597181).
