- Danny Rohl plans to use upcoming ‘pre-season’ situation to map out 2026/27
- Result against Dundee United vital to build momentum
- Previous warm weather camps have proven beneficial
Danny Rohl has hit back at negative reactions to his decision to send his squad to Spain for a training camp.
The Gers are set to fly out to La Manga for five days after the match against Falkirk next weekend while the Scottish Cup semi-finals take place.
Rohl is also expected to sit down with Ibrox chiefs to plan ahead for next season and identify potential targets
Dundee United result is crucial for momentum
Rohl has stressed how much of a “good opportunity” this is for his players, adding that “there are a lot of advantages” for his side.
What would be incredibly advantageous is a victory against Dundee United tomorrow which would send Rangers to the summit of the Scottish Premiership.
The three points would inject momentum into the squad ahead of the trip to Spain and crucially bring confidence and positive energy to what will be an intense training environment.
A mini ‘pre-season’ for Danny Rohl as he eyes next season
The German was thrust into the pressure cooker that is Ibrox having arrived at the club mid-season in October.
The upcoming trip to the Murcia resort will allow Rohl and his backroom staff the luxury of extended time with a full squad on the pitch, unlike international breaks when many players are away on duty.
It would also allow for further strengthening of relationships between players and staff and cohesion going into the run-in, while allowing winter signings the opportunity to get up to speed on a break they may not have had.
The manager has also revealed that he will be using the trip for forward planning ahead of next season, stressing that “we know what we need in the summer” ahead of talks with new chief executive Jim Gillespie and the recruitment team.
Rohl can also assess the squad with next season in mind and begin the process of moulding the squad further into his image.
Previous trip to Spain is encouraging
Rohl can also point to the positives that arose from last time Rangers visited Spain and he will be hoping for the same impact ahead of the split.
In 2024, Philippe Clement also sent his squad to La Manga which provided the catalyst for a ten-match winning streak.
If Rohl’s Rangers can replicate the form of Clement’s men post-Spain during the split, it would leave them in very good stead for the season’s conclusion.

What is on the line for Rangers after the split is clearly not lost on Rohl and he is grabbing the advantage of a free week with both hands.
And the opportunities, confidence and momentum that could arise from the Spanish camp may be what this Rangers squad need in their push for silverware.
First of all, two wins are essential from the final two fixtures of the regular season, against Dundee United and Falkirk.
Get those points on the board and then the Spanish trip becomes base camp for a title charge.
