Hitting form at the right time: Is Bojan Miovski Rangers’ secret weapon?

  • Bojan Miovski scored twice in Falkirk rout
  • The North Macedonian has three goals in last two games
  • 26-year-old has not started in two months

Bojan Miovski scored a brace as Rangers came from behind to cruise past Falkirk and remain a point behind leaders Hearts.

The North Macedonian has three goals to his name in the last two matches, having came off the bench on both occasions.

The 26-year-old is proving himself to be an impactful substitute and has proven that when Rangers create the chances, he can take them and deliver.

Hitting form at the right time

Prior to both the Dundee United and Falkirk matches, the last time Bojan Miovski had scored for Rangers was in a 5-1 rout over Kilmarnock in February.

It would be understandable if fans were beginning to question whether the striker could prove himself as the Gers’ hunt for the title continued to pick up pace.

The 26-year-old only played a combined total of 62 minutes between 11 February and the international break, which included the first-half in the 2-2 draw with Livingston.

However, since then, Miovski is thriving in the pressure of a title race and is capitalising on the momentum that is building around Ibrox.

In the second-half at Falkirk, the Macedonian also played a part in the build up to Rangers’ fourth goal which showcased his influence on the pitch.

Starting regularly the next step

What the last two performances have demonstrated is the impact that Miovski has when appearing off the bench.

However, especially with his performance at Falkirk, he will be sending a clear message that he can be impactful leading from the line.

The last time that the 26-year-old was in the starting line-up for a league match was the visit of Kilmarnock two months ago.

Bojan Miovski will be hoping he has given Danny Rohl food for thought and convince the manager that he deserves a chance to start when Rangers host Motherwell in the first game after the split.

Following in the footsteps of a striker from the past?

When Rangers’ won the Scottish Premiership in the 2010/11 season, they pipped Celtic to the title by one point, a scenario that could be repeated this season.

In the final six matches of that campaign, Kyle Lafferty scored six goals in five of the last six league matches.

It is not clear that the former Aberdeen striker will emulate the feat of the Northern Irishman but the ability to win games with numerous goal scorers is similar to that of 15 years ago.

Bojan Miovski’s recent impact off the bench highlights the talent that the striker possesses and justifies why he was a target in the first place.

The challenge for Miovski now is whether he can take advantage of his revived form and continue that into the remaining matches.

An opportunity from Rohl to start the first game post-split would allow him to prove he will be a consistent attacking threat for the run-in.
