James Tavernier to Spurs. Really?
The current Rangers club captain has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, with Roberto De Zerbi and his staff said to be drawing up a contingency list to prepare for two outcomes.
With the north London club currently languishing in the Premier League relegation zone, they are said to have commenced preparations for life in the Championship, and also if they pull off the great escape.
If the former happens, it will be the first time that Spurs have played in the second tier since 1977 and that would be a seismic reality check for all concerned at the club.
James Tavernier to Spurs claim
According to TeamTalk, “Sources have confirmed that Tavernier has emerged as a target, in the event of relegation, with his experience and leadership viewed as valuable assets in a promotion push.”
You know what, they could do much worse than look to James Tavernier for life in the Championship.
The 34-year-old would easily be able to compete and thrive in that league, as much as his lack of pace would be an issue against younger, much faster opponents.
Obviously, such a move would be a non-starter in the Premier League and not much more needs to be said on that.
Tav’s Rangers finale
James Tavernier will depart Rangers in the coming weeks after 11 years at the club.
The aim is to go out on a high by winning the Scottish league title, but those hopes were severely dented following the 3-2 defeat by Motherwell on Sunday.
Tavernier was introduced at half-time and contributed to Rangers levelling the game, but ultimately, the team failed to get the job done.
A draw would have been disappointing, but the final outcome was even worse.
Next up is the trip to Tynecastle – a win at all costs assignment for Rangers.
Whether Tavernier will start or not is another interesting sub-plot to discuss in the coming days.
