- McCausland is on loan at Cypriot club Aris Limassol
- Northern Irishman has one year left of his Ibrox contract
- 22-year-old wants to continue his career with Rangers
Ross McCausland has spoken out on his desire to return to Rangers and be a part of Danny Rohl’s first team squad next season.
The 22-year-old was shipped out to Cyprus to join Cypriot First Division club Aris Limassol by Russell Martin.
McCausland has scored four goals for his on-loan club and has featured in 25 matches across all competitions.
Speaking to the Rangers Review, he revealed that he is eyeing a first-team spot at Rangers next season.
McCausland believes he can be an asset for Danny Rohl at Rangers
The Northern Irishman admitted that he has had limited contact with the German since his arrival in October but believes he has what it takes.
He said: “To play at a club like Rangers, you need to have that mindset.
“Not only do you need to want to play for the club, but you need to believe that you’re good enough to play for the club.”
McCausland is signalling that he has the mindset and understands the expectations that comes with playing for a club the size of Rangers.
There is no reason to suggest why the 22-year-old would not say this as he has been involved with the Gers since he joined the academy in 2019.
However, as he admits, conversations with Rohl have been few and far between, so it will be up to the Northern Irishman to impress and prove that he deserves a first-team spot.
Rohl’s youth signings a hint he will let McCausland stake his claim
McCausland conceded that he does not know if it will “work out” when he does return to Glasgow for pre-season.
However, perhaps there are already signs that Rohl will let the 22-year-old demonstrate why he should be a part of the squad next season.
The German has already green-lit the professional contract of academy star Ashton Scally while Findlay Curtis is currently at Kilmarnock.
This shows that Rohl wants to increase the competition to earn a place in his squad and open opportunities for emerging talent, a sentiment he has already alluded to.
Therefore, it seems that the path is not blocked for McCausland to realise his dream of progressing his career at Rangers.

Ross McCausland is one of many on-loan players who will be returning to Rangers this summer.
All of them will be desperate to show Danny Rohl what they can do and how they have developed at their loan clubs.
It will be a challenge, but McCausland’s understanding of the culture at Rangers coupled with Rohl’s desire to reward young talent is a step in the right direction.
