# Rangers to send massive indication of Cavanagh spending power as Fares Ghedjemis situation intensifies

**With the news that Frosinone have rejected Rangers’ £8 million bid for Fares Ghedjemis, the fans are set to receive a massive indication of the club’s spending power this summer.**

With chairman Andrew Cavanagh at the helm, the club hierarchy previously intimated that new boss Derek McInnes will be backed to build his team.

With eight signings in the door to date, the squad has been improved, but quality is still lacking, as witnessed in the disappointing [league opener with Dundee United](https://readrangers.com/2026/07/31/not-holding-back-derek-mcinnes-rangers-transfer-call).

An £8 million bid for Algeria international Ghedjemis is a signal of intent, but what happens next is the fascinating bit.

## Rangers set for Old Firm bidding war over Fares Ghedjemis?

As reported by Sky Sports, including local info from Luca Bendoni, Serie A new boys Frosinone are in a position of strength over Ghedjemis and they are holding out for top dollar.

“Frosinone have rejected an £8m bid from Rangers for winger Fares Ghedjemis. It comes days after Celtic had a £6m offer turned down.

“The Serie A club are reluctant to sell unless they receive an offer of around €15-20m.”

So, Rangers appear to have outflanked Celtic with a greater bid, but how far does this go?

Both clubs will need to get into double figures to move the Lazio club’s position, with the fees involved stretching the capability of the Glasgow clubs and the parameters they work within.

Last season, Rangers splashed out £8 million for Youssef Chermiti, which could rise to £10m, and that was a massive outlay for an unproven player as he was then.

The big striker still has some way to go, but he has shown flashes of undisputed quality.

To go even further, north of £10m, for Fares Ghedjemis would be a massive outlay.

### Rangers spending plans and intentions

It all depends what the tipping point is for Rangers, given that other quality additions are required, out wide and in defence.

[Daisuke Yokota](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/04/hannover-fan-reacts-to-sale-of-daisuke-yokota-to-rangers) is set to arrive at Ibrox for a fee of around £2.75 million, and he will compete with another new arrival for a place on the right wing.

That could be Ghedjemis, or another candidate, depending on how much Rangers want to spend on a chosen player.

In an open letter to supporters earlier this summer, Andrew Cavanagh and the board detailed that:

“While we recognise the importance of resources, we believe that thoughtful, disciplined investment, guided by a clear strategy, is the path to enduring success.”

We’re about to see how that will unfold, and how the spending budget will be utilised, to add the required quality to Derek McInnes’ squad for the challenges of the season ahead.
