# Shock name in the frame to ‘replace’ Chermiti played down

**Despite some reports yesterday that Rangers are targeting Sheffield United attacker Ryan One, another key source has played down the prospect**.

Rangers now require another option in attack following the long-term injury picked up by Youssef Chermiti.

The Portugal Under-21 international will almost certainly not play again this season after his ACL problem was [confirmed on Tuesday](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/11/rangers-confirm-injury-chermiti-rommens).

A further blow was revealed with the news that Tuur Rommens will be out of action in the short-term, hastening the need for another left-back option.

## Rangers’ interest in Ryan One dismissed

With Chermiti now out of the picture, how will Derek McInnes recalibrate his front line, who will now become the focal point of the attack?

Another player will now come in, whether on loan or permanent.

Several outlets, including the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/ryan-one-rangers-transfer-talks-37540009) citing Sky Sports, claimed that the club had renewed interest in the Coatbridge-born striker Ryan One, who can also operate out wide.

A loan-to-buy deal was suggested.

One has scored once in 23 games for Sheffield United but enjoyed a relatively positive loan at Lincoln City in the second half of last season.

At Sincil Bank, he scored five times in 16 appearances, contributing to Lincoln’s promotion to the Championship.

Potential and talent? Yes. Ready to replace Chermiti? No.

That One won’t fit the bill, and the extent of the interest has been played down, with [Rangers Review](https://www.rangersreview.co.uk/features/26456133.rangers-transfer-state-play-rommens-siquet-ryan-one/) briefing that they understand the club “currently pursuing a move for Sheffield United’s Ryan One.”

### Chermiti replacement could go to the wire

The immediate pressure is plugging the gaps for Thursday night against Jagiellonia Bialystok in the Europa League.

If Rangers can salvage this tie, a more favourable [playoff opponent awaits in FC Iberia 1999](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/11/rangers-jagiellonia-iberia-georgia-europa-league-playoff).

Looking further ahead, there should be enough firepower within the squad for the upcoming domestic challenges.

Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi, and Bojan Miovski will be required to step up and fill the void in Chermiti’s absence while the club works on delivering a new arrival.

It could be a similar type or a striker/winger hybrid with the potential for that chase to run through to the end of the transfer window in early September.

Winning games buys time.
