Kevin Kelsy continues to impress – Rangers transfer news latest

Kevin Kelsy scored another goal, in an all round impressive performance, as Portland Timbers beat Club Tiquana in the Leagues Cup on Friday night.

The powerful Venezuelan striker got himself into a good position to stroke home an equaliser from close range, late in the first half, before the Timbers turned the game around after the break.

Beyond the goal, Kevin Kelsy recorded an assist as part of an overall MOTM performance.

His stats reflect another game where he was involved and influential, leading the line to good effect.

Despite the victory, it wasn’t enough for the Timbers to proceed to the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup.

They return to MLS action late tonight against Chicago Fire.

Rangers Kevin Kelsy latest

Efforts are ongoing in Rangers’ attempts to land Kevin Kelsy from Portland Timbers.

In recent days, Read Rangers relayed the $10m (£7.4m) bid that was sent to the MLS franchise, who are reluctant to part ways with their key asset.

There is no indication yet of the deadlock being broken in those negotiations, but Rangers need for quality reinforcements is clear.

Derek McInnes needs chance creation as well as a replacement for Youssef Chermiti.

The only way out of the current mess is to land quality to lift the level of the team. Some will scoff at a potential arrival from MLS, in Kelsy, but his attributes are evident, in a very similar style to Chermiti.

Rangers expect late transfer business

Derek McInnes stated after the Jagiellonia setback on Thursday night that there are “a lot of things we’d still like to get”.

As we enter the last three weeks of the summer transfer window, the club expects to be busy.

“And we’ve got money to spend. We’ve got good ownership. We’ve got a lot of younger players and what we could do with is a wee bit of help, said McInnes.

“We need to try and win games as we go along. Because if you don’t win games, everything becomes so much more difficult.

“Everything gets scrutinised when you don’t win a game and that’s just part of the course, that’s not going to change. The only thing that has to change is getting more winning performances and hopefully we can have that Sunday.”
