# Rangers confirmed line-up v St Mirren – James Penrice debut, three changes made

**James Penrice makes his Rangers debut this afternoon, with the starting line-up confirmed for the Scottish League Cup clash against St Mirren.**

The on-loan AEK left-back slots in to provide balance on that side of the pitch, with Derek McInnes making three changes to the XI that started against Jagiellonia Bialystok on Thursday.

It appears to be a 4-3-3 with Lawrence Shankland making way.

In his absence, Ryan Naderi leads the line, while Nico Raskin assumes the armband today.

## Rangers line-up highlights current uncertainty

Three changes for today’s game reflects the continued uncertainty at Ibrox, and McInnes’ need to find answers.

In midfield and in attack, it’s another set of combinations to try to find a way through, but the need for quality is clear.

Today, four of the new summer arrivals are on the bench, including two of the more prominent signings in Shankland and Neil.

Thelo Aasgaard is not involved at all, so that one will need to be cleared up.

Derek McInnes has stated that the players need to [demonstrate action to give the fans something](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/16/derek-mcinnes-declares-need-for-rangers-action) to believe in, and the stakes are raised once more in this cup clash against the Buddies.

Kick-off at Ibrox is at 4pm.
