# Rangers named as potential destination for outgoing Leicester City winger

**Rangers have been named as one of two potential destinations for Leicester City’s Stephy Mavididi.**

The 28-year-old Derby-born winger was left out of the Foxes squad for their opening day League One draw with Notts Country at the weekend, alongside defender Wout Faes.

Both players were omitted due to transfer interest, with bids said to have been lodged for both players.

The much-maligned Russell Martin has said that Leicester must be prepared for further departures as it contiues to grapple with the realities of playing in England’s third tier.

## Rangers and Middlesbrough credited with interest in Stephy Mavididi

Rangers were previously linked to Mavididi, with [talks said to have been opened last month](https://readrangers.com/2026/07/15/rangers-danilo-mavididi-transfer-briefing).

The former Arsenal trainee made his breakthrough at Montpellier in France, scoring 21 goals in 91 appearances.

He enjoyed a successful debut season with Leicester City in the Championship in 2023/24, before impacting in the Premier League the year after.

The winger has suffered from inconsistency and setbacks, just like Leicester in recent years, with the club suffering successive relegations into League 1.

They are preparing for an immediate return to the Championship, but Mavididi is expected to move on before the end of the window.

[Leicestershire Live reported](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-city-transfer-complete-souttar-11112793):

“After three seasons at the club, Mavididi looks to be set for a move away. The winger has struggled for form and consistency over the last 24 months, with questions also raised over his performances during pre-season.

“Middlesbrough and Rangers have been linked with him, but it’s currently unclear what club has made an official bid. Being left out of the squad at Notts County and the “strong” interest in him means his future could be wrapped up this week.”

### Russell Martin comments on potential Mavididi departure

Russell Martin confirmed the situation on Mavididi and Faes, in conversation with [BBC Radio Leicester](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0p4qslh):

“I think we’re navigating and managing change in the best way. They’ve been really respectful, I think we’re treating them with respect.

“Whilst they’re here, they train, they’re involved. We just feel that for us, we have to be prepared to be without them.

“And if they stay, no problem, we’d be really happy with both being here, but with the level of interest that we have.

“We’ve turned down bids for both, but that’s ongoing, so we’ll see, but I’m not sure any will go soon.”

With Rangers continuing to hunt down a right-footed left winger, Mavididi is an option within Rangers’ price range that could re-emerge.

At present, Djeidi Gassama and Findlay Curtis are the left-sided options, but further quality is needed to elevate Rangers’ attacking output.

Two options are still required, with Daisuke Yokota the only natural winger available to play on the right flank. That side is likely to be the priority, but this is an interesting link to keep an eye on.
