# Rangers handed Matthew MacDermid for pivotal Pittodrie clash with Aberdeen

**Matthew MacDermid has been appointed as referee for the high-stakes Scottish Premiership clash between Aberdeen and Rangers at Pittodrie on Sunday.**

The midday encounter in the north-east will see MacDermid supported on the touchlines by assistant referees David McGeachie and Jonathan Bell, alongside fourth official Sean Murdoch.\
\
[As detailed by the SFA](https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/en/referees/referee-appointments), Andrew Dallas will lead the VAR operations from Clydesdale House with support from assistant VAR Grant Irvine.

## MacDermid’s Recent Record in Rangers Fixtures

Matthew MacDermid took charge of five matches involving Rangers during the 2025/26 campaign, presiding over two victories, two draws, and one defeat.

His previous handling of this specific match-up produced a 4-1 win for the Gers against Aberdeen in March, though his last assignment with the Rangers resulted in a 2-1 defeat to Hibernian in May.

## High Stakes at Pittodrie

With [Derek McInnes](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/25/rangers-striker-dilemma-jablonec-clash) taking his team north to his old club for the third match of the Premiership season, firm officiating will be required in what is usually a feisty encounter.\
\
How likely that is remains to be seen…
