# Why has Paraag Marathe returned to Rangers?

**Paraag Marathe has been reappointed to the [Rangers](https://readrangers.com/tag/rangers) board, having stepped down from his executive role earlier this year.**

On a busy day of news at Ibrox, the Rangers Review has confirmed that the American is back at the table, on the provision that the club continues to abide by UEFA guidelines and regulations around multi-club ownership.

Due to Marathe’s other role as chairman of [Leeds United](https://readrangers.com/tag/leeds-united), he and fellow board member Gene Schneur revoked their official roles at Ibrox to avoid any conflict of interest.

At the time, it was suggested that a problem could arise if Leeds qualified for Europe but their run in the FA Cup ended at the semi-final stage.

With only Rangers competing in European competition this season, that appears to have bought time as well as management of the wider situation, leading to the reappointment.

## Paraag Marathe rejoins Rangers board

Unofficially, he has never really been away.

As an investor in the club and a close associate of chairman Andrew Cavanagh, Marathe has remained present.

He made a public appearance and contribution from the stage at the recent Shareholders’ Meeting, as well as taking in games from the press box.

It has been reported that: “Rangers sources suggest that in keeping with those regulations, Marathe stepped back from his role as a director at the time however, the American has subsequently been able to re-join as a director.

“Rangers will continue to adhere to UEFA regulations surrounding multi-club ownership rules.”

### Paraag Marathe returns officially to Rangers at a critical time.

The club will burst through £20 million in transfer fees after agreements were reached for Kim Min-sun and [Kevin Kelsy](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/13/kevin-kelsy-rangers-striker-chermiti-replacement).

Another couple of arrivals are likely, while several players need to be moved on between now and next Thursday, when the transfer window closes in Scotland.

Derek McInnes needs to steer the team to an upturn in form to kick-start the season with a crucial run of games ahead.
