# That wasn’t even football – Andy Halliday obliterates Rangers farcical performance

**Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday launched a scathing attack on what he witnessed after the club was dumped out of the Conference League.**

Jablonec won the tie on penalties after they secured a 1-0 win in normal time.

Rangers had no answers during the game, in extra time, and reached the end of the road on penalties.

Findlay Curtis and [James Penrice](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/16/rangers-lineup-confirmed-james-penrice-debut/) were the fall guys from the spot, but that’s irrelevant in the bigger picture.

This was a horror show.

[Derek McInnes said he was mortified](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/27/derek-mcinnes-stat-jablonec-horror-show/), while the game [delivered a stat](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/27/derek-mcinnes-stat-jablonec-horror-show/) that you would struggle to believe.

In his role as a pundit for BBC Sport Scotland, Andy Halliday didn’t miss.

He was scathing and critical of what McInnes team served up and rightly so.

## Andy Halliday blasts Rangers’ miserable display against Jablonec

“I don’t think Rangers are an upgraded side from last year, said Halliday.

“This isn’t an isolated couple of games, not just the Jablonec games. We saw it against Jagiellonia, we saw it against Hibs, against Dundee United.

“All but the St Mirren game in the Premier Sports Cup have been poor performances.

“Rangers are gonna spend another £20 million overall in the next few days and what does that take their spending to in the last 12 months?

“That was a different sport I watched tonight. That wasn’t even football. I don’t even know what I watched.”

### No hiding place for McInnes and Rangers

It’s hard to dispute that.

McInnes has a long way back, and a tough run of games ahead.

It’s only August and the dark clouds are hovering over Ibrox once again.

Andy Halliday is only describing what we’re all seeing.
