# Rangers transfer news – Bouanani trail shows club still pursuing right winger

**Rangers have been linked with a loan move for Stuttgart’s Algerian international winger Badredine Bouanani, showing that the club is still pursuing an option for that key position.**

Rangers are said to have dropped out of the race to land Bouanani, as have Schalke, with French side Strasbourg closing in on a short-term deal for the 21-year-old.

The point is that it’s encouraging that the club is still targeting a quality option for the key right-wing position, especially as it’s looking less likely that [Amario Cozier-Duberry](https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/middlesbrough-fc-brighton-amario-cozier-duberry-morgan-whittaker-8953541) will be making his way to Glasgow.

The player has signed a contract extension with Brighton, and has been tipped to land a Championship loan move.

Middlesbrough are close to completing a deal for Cozier-Duberry.

After Rangers failed miserably in Europe, there will be a knock-on effect in terms of the attraction for clubs’ to send their players to Ibrox, and also the remaining budget for this window (and January) will be reassessed.

## Rangers targeting new signing for right-wing

Badredine Bouanani featured for Nice against Rangers in the Europa League two seasons ago on the night of the landmark 4-1 win for Phillipe Clement.

The door is closing on Rangers’ chances of landing the Algerian, but another looks set to open.

With two days of the [Scottish transfer window](https://readrangers.com/2026/09/01/when-is-transfer-deadline-scotland-rangers/) remaining, another right-winger appears to be the missing piece in the jigsaw for [Derek McInnes](https://readrangers.com/2026/09/01/derek-mcinnes-curveball-rangers-transfer-window/).

Bouanani is another example of a left-footed right-winger, as is the preference of the Rangers boss.

Any new signing would be competing with Daisuke Yokota for a place on the right-hand side, while Findlay Curtis showed on Sunday that he can perform on that side.

Beyond the [Kevin Kelsy](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/25/rangers-portland-timbers-kevin-kelsy-fee/) signing, this appears to be the main sub-plot heading into the end of the transfer window for Rangers.
