Rangers goalkeeper Mason Munn has completed a season-long loan switch to League Two side Dumbarton to secure regular first-team football over secondary roles elsewhere.
The 20-year-old Northern Ireland Under-21 international arrives at The Rock following previous temporary spells at Dunfermline Athletic and Forfar Athletic. Rangers teammates James Penrice and Cameron Devlin publicly backed the development move on social media. Penrice, whose own initial loan agreement provides Derek McInnes with defensive stability, validated the pathway as Rangers prepare for their impending Celtic fixture.
Dumbarton Target Starting Position
Munn previously made his senior debut during a 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over Fraserburgh. Dumbarton manager Frank McKeown confirmed the goalkeeper rejected higher-division advances from England and the Scottish Championship to finalise this domestic move.
Speaking to The National, McKeown said: “Mason had strong interest from clubs in the Championship and in England earlier on in the window and it didn’t quite materialise, so it’s excellent business for us to get this deal over the line.”
The temporary arrangement does not include an option to buy. McKeown added that the battle for the starting role will benefit the entire squad over the coming months.
“Competition for the number one jersey will be fierce, which can only help all of our keepers in their development,” McKeown added.
Rangers next travel to face Celtic in the Premiership on Sunday 20 September.
