Rangers Old Firm Victory Followed by Police Arrest and Bus Fire

Police confirmed the arrest of a 39-year-old man after Rangers’ 1-0 Old Firm win over Celtic at Parkhead on Sunday.

The man was held in connection with an alleged assault on a police officer and medical staff during the derby.

Emergency crews also attended a fire on a Celtic supporters’ bus outside Emirates Arena that same afternoon.

Arrest and Emergency Incidents Follow Rangers Old Firm Derby Victory

The arrest came on a matchday already marked by a separate emergency response in the vicinity of Celtic Park.

Fire crews were called to a single-decker coach well alight on Clyde Gateway, outside Emirates Arena in Glasgow’s east end, shortly after the final whistle.

Police Scotland has not linked the two incidents. Both remain under separate enquiry.

Police Scotland and McLean’s Coaches Detail Clyde Gateway Bus Fire Response

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the timing and nature of the call-out. They said:

“We received a call at 2:25pm to a single decker passenger coach well alight on Clyde Gateway outside the Emirates Arena in the east end of Glasgow today, September 20. Fire crews remain in attendance. There are no reports of any casualties.”

McLean’s Coaches, which operated the vehicle, issued its own statement afterwards. It pointed to a possible cause but stopped short of a firm conclusion. The operator said:

“We are aware of an incident involving one of our coaches on the Clyde Gateway earlier today. Based on the initial information and images we have received, we have reason to believe the incident may have been caused by vandalism.”

McLean’s Coaches has stressed this is an initial assessment, not a confirmed finding.

A full technical investigation is expected before officials establish an official cause. Further detail on the response is available in this coverage of the Clyde Gateway bus fire.

Match Security Operations and Tactical Focus After Ibrox Victory

Old Firm fixtures routinely bring an elevated police and stewarding presence around the games.

Sunday’s derby was no exception, given the clubs’ volatile history, although once again no away fans were present at the fixture.

The arrest inside the ground formed part of that wider security picture. Police Scotland has released no further information on other matchday incidents.

Separately, the Daily Record and posts on social media have claimed that a car belonging to Rangers coach Craig Clark had a window broken outside Ibrox.

Video footage appeared to show an accidental strike during fans’ celebrations back at Ibrox.

Further detail is available in this Daily Record report on post-match incidents.

On the pitch, the security headlines have not overshadowed the football.

Derek McInnes oversaw a disciplined performance built around a well-organised defensive shape, as Rangers reigned supreme in Glasgow for the second time in eight days.

That display is covered in our analysis of Derek McInnes’ tactical victory.
