# Kris Boyd praises Dan Neil and summer recruits at Rangers

## Boyd singles out Dan Neil after derby dynamic shifts

Kris Boyd has amplified the [Dan Neil](https://readrangers.com/squad/dan-neil) Rangers talk that has dominated conversation around Ibrox this month.

It is easy to see why.

Dan Neil scored twice as Rangers beat Celtic 3-0 in the Premier Sports Cup at Ibrox, then the same outcome was secured away at Parkhead in the league.

That result was covered in full in our report on the [recent derby victory at Parkhead](https://readrangers.com/2026/09/23/barry-ferguson-rangers-celtic-title-gap).

Two wins over Celtic inside a fortnight have changed the mood around Ibrox. Neil has been central to both.

Neil joined Rangers from Sunderland over the summer as a free agent.

He has settled into Derek McInnes’ midfield after overcoming early real teething problems.

Neil controlled the tempo in the cup tie and followed it up with another strong display at Parkhead. This is the standard that the midfielder must maintain.

Speaking to Seven, powered by Ladbrokes, in comments carried by the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/kris-boyd-names-rangers-summer-37698725), Boyd praised the impact he has already made at Ibrox.

“Dan Neil has been excellent since he’s come in; he ran the show at Ibrox and he’s one I’m really looking forward to seeing more of this season.”

## Summer overhaul yields immediate impact across the squad

Neil’s rise is one part of a much bigger picture at Ibrox this season. Rangers brought in a large group of new faces over the summer, but how do you accomodate 14 signings without pain? That is difficult.

That pattern of heavy turnover was first raised by Boyd in his [earlier comments on squad reshaping](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/30/kris-boyd-calls-rangers-sell-seven-players).

He returned to that theme again when asked about this year’s transfer business.

“For Rangers, when you look at the number of players that came in over the summer… it’s a lot,” he said.

McInnes had to blend those arrivals quickly, but the bumps in the road were expected.

Stuttering early league form and two European exits were the price to pay.

However, Rangers are now on a run of six consecutive wins. A corner has been turned.

## How Pandur and Penrice anchored McInnes’ early success

Two more summer signings have earned similar praise from Boyd.

Full-back [James Penrice](https://readrangers.com/squad/james-penrice) has been steady and reliable since arriving. He sits high on Boyd’s list of the window’s better pieces of business. “The majority of signings have impressed me to be honest… James Penrice is another one,” he said.

Goalkeeper [Ivor Pandur](https://readrangers.com/squad/ivor-pandur) has made just as strong an impression between the posts.

Boyd believes the Croatian has already made the position his own, despite only recently arriving at the club.

“The goalkeeper \[Ivor Pandur\] looks like he’s been Rangers’ goalkeeper for a number of years already… he looks pretty safe,” he added.

Between Neil’s goals and solidity, Penrice’s consistency and Pandur’s calm handling, McInnes now has a core of summer arrivals performing well above expectations this early in the season.

That combination gives Rangers a platform to build from heading into the busier months ahead.

## Why stability must replace constant transfer turnover at Ibrox

Boyd’s praise for this summer’s business comes with a clear warning attached.

He believes Rangers’ habit of overhauling large parts of the squad every year cannot continue. Boyd wants that pattern broken if Rangers are to achieve real momentum.

“It was exactly the same last season, and they’ve already moved a lot of last year’s arrivals on, so the key sooner or later has to be stability.

“You can’t keep chopping and changing players at the rate Rangers have been doing in recent transfer windows,” he said.

Kris Boyd sums up where the club stands right now.

A summer window has already produced two derby wins. It has also brought a handful of individuals that look built to last.

Boyd wants McInnes to break the club’s pattern of constant turnover once and for all.
