# Aberdeen forced to pay for ticket reduction for League Cup semi final

**Aberdeen have been sanctioned by the SPFL with a reduction of 500 tickets for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers on October 31.**

They will need to pay for the withheld tickets in what is a further blow for the Pittodrie club.

The punishment from the SPFL follows ‘supporter misconduct’ during their quarter-final win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park earlier this month.

Pyro was set off in the away end at the Ayrshire venue, then there was an incursion onto the pitch after Stephen Robinson’s side won the tie on penalties.

The league confirmed the sanction: an immediate cut of 500 tickets from Aberdeen’s allocation for the semi-final at Hampden Park.

Rangers secured their particpation in the game thanks to the convincing [3-0 victory over Celtic](https://readrangers.com/2026/09/14/callum-mcgregor-blasts-celtic-after-3-0-league-cup-exit-to-rangers/) at Ibrox two weeks ago.

## Aberdeen hit with sanction for Rangers League Cup semi final

The SPFL have confirmed the disciplinary action in a statement.

It read: “The SPFL can confirm that Aberdeen have been sanctioned following the behaviour of the club’s supporters during their Premier Sports Cup quarter-final match, away at Kilmarnock.

“Proceedings into two separate serious incidents – a large scale organised and illegal pyrotechnics display, and a pitch incursion – at the club’s 1-1 draw at BBSP Rugby Park on 12 September, which Aberdeen won 3-1 on penalties, have now concluded.

“The club received the following sanction:

“(i) An immediate reduction of 500 tickets from the club’s ticket allocation for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden Park on Saturday 31 October. The club is required to cover the cost of these tickets as part of this sanction.

The winner of the Rangers vs Aberdeen clash will play either Hibernian or Hearts in the final on Sunday 13 December.
