# Ryan Jack returns to Rangers training ground on a mission

Ryan Jack has returned to Auchenhowie in a bid to prove his fitness and win a deal with a new club.

The free agent has confirmed he is working alongside the club’s physio and performance staff to keep himself sharp, with the 34-year-old determined to secure his next move.

That is the mission Jack is set on.

His return to training at Rangers follows his release from Turkish side Esenler Erokspor, which left the midfielder searching for his next club.

Jack is not on Rangers’ radar, other than helping out a popular former player, and there is no suggestion of a new contract on the table, under Derek McInnes.

He is simply using facilities he knows well from his years at Ibrox to stay in shape while he weighs up his options as an unattached player.

## Former title winner confirms Auchenhowie medical support

Jack was part of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers squad that won the Premiership title in 2020/21, ending Celtic’s long run at the top of Scottish football.

That history goes some way to explaining why Auchenhowie is such a natural base for him now.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, in comments carried in the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-title-winner-returns-auchenhowie-37700825), Ryan Jack explained exactly what his return to the training ground involves.

“I am just into the Rangers training ground working away with the physio and performance staff and also doing some gym work, so yeah feeling good.”

He also gave an update on his physical condition, saying his recent injury problems are largely behind him.

“It is pretty much out of the way (injury). It is just this time of season when you are out of contract, you just want to keep fit.”

## Jack credits Derek McInnes for changing Glasgow narrative

Jack gave his own verdict on how Rangers have performed under manager Derek McInnes, having watched from close range as the team pulled themselves out of a shaky start to the season.

He didn’t shy away from how difficult things had looked.

“Considering the start of the season, getting knocked out of Europe and not really starting too well domestically,” he started, before pointing to the turnaround.

“The two results for Derek McInnes and Rangers are massive and have given everyone a huge boost at the club,” Jack said.

He was blunt about how close the manager had come to losing the dressing room’s support in the eyes of many.

“I think the narrative changed for sure. Everyone would have been calling for Derek’s head I am sure if he had lost the last two Old Firm matches with the way they lost in Europe as I touched on and started in the league.

Jack’s reading of the mood matches other accounts from inside the club, including [our earlier report](https://readrangers.com/2026/08/28/unseen-thelo-aasgaard-ignores-derek-mcinnes/) on the pressure McInnes faced before those results turned things around.

Jack also reflected on how fast opinion can turn in Glasgow, in comments echoed in [our report on McInnes’ title push](https://readrangers.com/2026/09/25/derek-mcinnes-rangers-title-push-hearts-pain/).

“But it just shows you how quickly in Scotland and Glasgow especially how things can change. If you go and get two big results against your rivals it just spins everything.”

He added a pointed observation about where the scrutiny now sits.

“You see all the pressure just flips onto Celtic and Martin O’Neill now.”
