# “Absolutely” – McInnes delighted to have found Rangers maverick

**Minsu Kim continues to stamp his authority on Derek McInnes growing Rangers side, with the manager very happy with what he is seeing.**

The South Korean is a maverick in the team, in the sense that he can do things others can’t.

His performance in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over St. Johnstone reflected his growing stature and importance, even if he couldn’t quite score.

Minsu Kim did everything but find the net on Saturday, much to his frustration. His first Rangers goal is surely only a matter of time.

When asked if he was impressed with his player’s performance, McInnes’ response was emphatic: “Absolutely”, he said.

## Minsu Kim is Rangers maverick

Minsu Kim is making a visible difference for Rangers. Just look at the goals scored on Saturday.

He was instrumental in the first strike, converted by Kevin Kelsy. It was his shot that led to the second, from Ryan Naderi, and Kim’s corner led to the third.

He was taken off for the final minutes before Djeidi Gassama’s fine work to set up Tochi Chukwuani.

Heading into a [defining week for Rangers](https://readrangers.com/2026/10/26/defining-week-rangers-hearts-aberdeen), it is great to see the level Minsu Kim is showing, but responsibility needs to be shared through the team.

The former Girona man should only get better, which is encouraging for all at Ibrox, and over the coming weeks, he appears certain to add goals to his undoubted impact.

He is quick, he’s hard-working, deceptively strong, creative, skilful and unpredictable.

McInnes is fortunate that Minsu Kim can play right across the front line in four positions, but it was great to see him prosper in the wide left berth on Saturday.

The 20-year-old is desperate to score, as detailed by McInnes in his [post-match press conference](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSN9X8W6vNI):

“It’s the first thing he talks about when he hasn’t scored and I’m trying to get him away from that.

“He’s so desperate to score and do well. I think it’s clearly annoying him that he’s hit a couple of posts now, but his overall game and his threat were superb today. He’s so willing. His counter-press is magnificent. His confidence in possession, his work rate and the quality he shows throughout the game are outstanding.

“Obviously, he doesn’t get his goal. Bouanani got one last week, which was great, and Gassama got a brilliant assist today.

“Minsu did everything but score. I’m fortunate that we’ve got good wide players, but they know the importance of getting their numbers up and nobody feels that more than Minsu.”

Rangers have their maverick, and if he keeps it up, he will become the main man.

All that stands in the way of Minsu Kim is consistency and goals. How far he goes is up to him.
