# Hearts 2 Rangers 2: Full-time whistle report

**Rangers fought back to claim a point on Derek McInnes’ return to Tynecastle as Olwethu Makhanya’s late header secured a 2-2 draw in a pulsating Scottish Premiership encounter.**

The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when Kevin Kelsy finished off an intricate move involving Ryan Naderi.

Hearts struggled to respond before the break, in what was a poor contest up to that point, but the second half brought a dramatic turnaround.

Cláudio Braga equalised early after the restart, bundling home after Malachi Fagan-Walcott flicked on a free-kick.

Calvin Miller then put the hosts ahead in the 57th minute, calmly converting after a Rangers error in midfield and a well-worked move involving Braga.

It was another unforced error for Rangers, with [Minsu Kim](https://readrangers.com/2026/10/26/absolutely-mcinnes-delighted-found-rangers-maverick) the guilty party this time.

However, as under-par as they were, the Gers stayed in the game, refusing to fold and equalised deep into the closing stages when the impressive Olwethu Makhanya rose to head home from a free-kick.

In what was the final action of the game, Dujon Sterling spurned a glorious gilt-edged chance to snatch victory for the visitors, as much as it would have been undeserved.

## Hearts 2 Rangers 2

Both sides will be disappointed, for different reasons, given how the game unfolded.

With Celtic drawing against Dundee United, you could say it was another missed opportunity, but in the end it was a good point for Rangers.

The performance was disappointing with so many players not turning up when it mattered.

That’s an issue for [Derek McInnes](https://readrangers.com/2026/10/27/derek-mcinnes-rangers-injury-news-update-hearts) to address, to get the team out of this period of sticky form.

Next up is the League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden on Saturday evening.
