Rangers midfielder to have knee scan – serious doubt for Hampden

Rangers midfielder Tochi Chukwuani

Rangers midfielder Tochi Chukwuani is set to undergo a knee scan, having experienced an issue overnight.

The Denmark-born player registered a bright cameo in the 2-2 draw at Tynecastle, replacing Dan Neil on the 84-minute mark.

If anything, the change should have been made earlier, given the urgency and intensity he showed in the final minutes.

The 23-year-old will be frustrated if this injury results in a layoff, given the door has opened for him once again over the last two games.

While he is a significant doubt for Saturday evening against Aberdeen, the issue is not thought to be a serious one.

As reported by the Rangers Review, Derek McInnes said at Thursday’s press conference that there is no long-term worry.

Chukwuani taking his opportunity

Tochi Chukwuani has been out of the picture over the last couple of months with Nico Raskin and Dan Neil forming the preferred partnership in Derek McInnes’ two-man midfield.

He can only aim to impress when he gets game time, and that’s what he has done over the last few days.

On Saturday, he was only on the pitch for a matter of minutes when he turned in Djeidi Gassama’s assist, after a dangerous run.

Chukwuani’s goal was Rangers’ fourth and final goal in the 4-0 success over St. Johnstone.

Then, against Hearts, he came on and showed desire. He was busy and useful for Rangers as much as he could have been for such a short period of time.

Given that Neil and Raskin have gone off the boil, it could be that a minor injury takes away his chance of earning a starting berth for Hampden.

Further news on the Tochi Chukwuani injury is expected ahead of Rangers vs Aberdeen on Saturday.
