Kenny Miller extends Ibrox stay until 2017

Forward Kenny Miller has signed a one-year contract extension with Rangers, keeping the striker at Ibrox until 2017.

Miller, who recently turned 35, is also to take on a coaching role with the under 20s squad, linking up with manager Ian Durrant.

In a statement on the club website, Miller said he was “absolutely delighted. It was unexpected to have the conversation so early in regards to staying for another year. It’s great to get it done and dusted. I’m very, very thankful that the manager has seen enough in the first four or five months to offer me that extra year, and hopefully I can repay him with some good performances, a few more goals and hopefully a promotion to get us back to the top league next year”

Manager Mark Warburton was happy to stress that the deal is a “playing contract.”

Kenny is doing his coaching qualifications and doing great work with our under 20s and gaining invaluable experience…

“but have no doubts, Kenny has earned this contract from a playing perspective.”

Miller, in his third spell as a Rangers player, is expected to have a key role in Rangers making their way back to the top of Scottish football.

matchday.
