RANGERS boss Mark Warburton knows that his priority is winning the Scottish Championship, however he has one eye on Tottenham Hotspur hoping they can win the English Premier League.
The ‘Gers manager doesn’t get carried away but says he might let his guard down if the Light Blues clinch the Championship and Spurs win the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team moved within two points of table-toppers Leicester, and Warburton says he would love to see them win it.
However he knows that he can’t blow his sides 11-point in the league and he’s pressuring his players to keep winning games.
He said: “We’re in a good position but there are still 30 points left on the table.
“Teams can put big runs together. Win eight out of 10 and put 24 points on the board and you are in great shape. We have to make sure we do that.”
Due to Hibernian’s cup commitments the Ibrox side could be 20-points clear of the Edinburgh side if they beat Greenock Morton and Falkirk.
Leicester have gained the backing of a lot of football fans in their bid to win the Premier League but Warburton wants both his teams to clinch the titles – and says that an Old Firm next season is a huge motivation for his side to prevail.
He said: “A Rangers and Tottenham double? A glass or two of red win might flow if that happens.
“The passion in Scotland is different, Glasgow’s a football city.
“I thought Arsenal-Tottenham was the biggest game in football but I quickly learned the level of passion here is really high.”
Asked if he was looking forward to his game in charge of an Old Firm he said: “If you can’t see the significance of a game like that then you shouldn’t be in football.
“If we achieve our goals for the season and have those games next year, fantastic. There is no doubt the players will recognise their significance.”
