Mark Warburton has come to the defence of Scotland boss Gordon Strachan by claiming ‘far deeper issues’ are at fault.
Strachan faced questions over his position in charge of the national team after Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat in Slovakia.
However, Warburton believes sacking him will do nothing to solve the failures at international level – according to the Daily Record.
The Rangers manager said talented youngsters aren’t tested enough and, until they are, the national team’s fortunes won’t improve.
“You need to offer a quality of challenge to a young player that they are not currently faced with,” he claimed.
“I see a very experienced manager and a very experienced coach. His credentials are there for all to see.
“It’s not about sacking managers – there is a lot of young talent in Scotland. We need to give them a chance to be the best we can be.”

Warburton also refused to answer questions about Joey Barton during his press conference ahead of Friday’s match at Inverness – as reported by Sky Sports.
Joey Barton has requested an extension to the deadline for his response to the SFA charge for betting on 44 matches between July 1 and September 15.

Following questions on the issue by Sky Sports reporter Mark Benstead, Warburton refused to comment on any of them.
However, the Ibrox boss left the press conference for around 20 minutes afterwards.
He did eventually resume and ended by answering questions on other matters.
