Steven Gerrard has been confirmed as the new manager of Rangers Football Club on a four-year deal.
Gerrard will join Rangers on June 1st, with Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson taking charge of the last three games of the season, at home to Kilmarnock and two away trips to Aberdeen and Hibernian.
This will be the former England captain’s first job in senior management, having been in charge of Liverpool’s U18’s and U19’s in the UEFA Youth League.
Rangers Chairman Dave King said:
From the very beginning, talks have been extremely positive and we believe that Steven is the right man to drive Rangers forward. He was extremely impressive throughout our negotiations and we are convinced that he has the necessary knowledge and temperament to lead the Club to the success we all desire.

The new Rangers manager said following his appointment:
I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition. I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this Club has achieved.
News about Steven’s backroom staff at Ibrox will be announced sometime between now and June 1st, although he has confirmed that Gary McAllister will be his assistant manager.
