  • Rangers fans invited to Retro Shirt Day on April 26 to support the Emmie Smillie Charity Foundation.
  • Event honours kit legend Jimmy Bell; supporters encouraged to wear home, away, third, or goalkeeper jerseys.
  • We share our top five historic kit suggestions, from 1984–87 CR Smith to 2010/11 black Umbro.

Rangers supporters group the Copeland Collective have announced a retro shirt day to raise money for the Emmie Smillie Chairty foundation.

This will take place during Rangers first post-split Premiership match at Ibrox against Motherwell on April 26.

The day is dedicated to legendary former kit man Jimmy Bell with the charity chosen by the family of the late Ibrox icon.

The day calls for supporters to wear their favourite Rangers kits from yesteryear.

They are also asking for donations which will be taken around the stadium footprint.

We at Read Rangers have picked out our tops already.

But for readers still struggling for choice – we have our top five suggestions.

Our suggestions

Recognisably nineties

Iconic, historic, and instantly recognisable.

This is the jersey Rangers wore at Tannadice as they secured their famous nine-in-a-row.

With its bold 1990s styling, large red, white, and blue collar, side stripes, and period-specific background pattern, it’s a symbol of winners.

Wear it with pride at Ibrox and cheer on the current squad, connecting past glories to today’s champions.

Gough. Gazza. Laudrup. McCoist.

One night in Florence

Sleek and understated, this white shirt with deep navy, almost purple, arm cuffs carries a special place in Rangers history.

Worn when cult hero Nacho Novo scored the decisive penalty to send the club to the UEFA Cup final.

A shirt for fans who love European nights and iconic moments, it’s a perfect choice to wear with pride at Ibrox.

With the warmer, lighter nights of April also reminiscent of those seen during deep European runs at Ibrox.

The head turner

For the bold and the show-offs, this striking purple-striped third kit is once again pure 90s flair.

Worn just once in a competitive match, fittingly against Motherwell, it’s a rare collector’s piece.

Authentic replicas are highly sought after and can cost £250+.

This makes it a standout choice for fans looking to make a statement at Ibrox.

A reminder of past victories

A true classic, this blue Rangers jersey with the CR Smith sponsor adorned Rangers during one of the most celebrated eras in club history.

It saw Graeme Souness’ side build towards ending a near-decade-long league title drought, culminating in the famous 1986/87 triumph at Pittodrie.

Simple yet striking, with bold blue and white trim, it’s a jersey that combines iconic style with historic significance.

It is perfect for fans wanting to celebrate Rangers past while inspiring the current squad onto their own drought-ending title win.

Black but gold

This simple yet iconic Umbro jersey was worn at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock in 2011.

This was the last time Rangers lifted the league away from home.

Something they could do again this year at Falkirk.

Fans remember Kyle Lafferty putting Rangers three up in seven minutes. Nikica Jelavic’s stunning free kick. David Weir lifting the 54th league title alongside Walter Smith in his farewell season. An iconic day for the club.

Minimalist in design but monumental in meaning, this black kit with red trim is perfect for Retro Shirt Day.

It is a reminder that even on the road, unforgettable memories are made. A lesson that could be repeated this season.
