Rangers heroes past and present join together for James Tavernier tribute

A host of Rangers stars from the past and present have lined up to pay tribute to James Tavernier after the club captain announced he would be leaving at the end of the season. 

The news is still sinking in, the dust won’t settle for a while yet, but this is the end of an era. 

James Tavernier’s Rangers story is an incredible and unique one over the last 11 years.

In addition to the many Rangers personalities who sent their respects and best wishes, plenty of other figures from across football reached out on Instagram after the news broke

Incredible service to the club

In no particular order, let us take you through a selection of the comments and well-wishes sent to the 34-year-old Yorkshire native. 

Steven Davis, himself a Rangers hero, told his former teammate: 

“Incredible service to the club, drive the boys and make sure you get the send off you deserve.”

John Lundstram, who travelled the road to Seville with Tav, said: 

“One of the best. Never hid in the hard times and delivered at the biggest times! Absolute legend.”

“Came as a young man, leaving as a legend. My skipper, said Leon Balogun.

“Some man for one man,” said Scott Arfield, succinctly. 

“Incredible player. Get everything you deserve brother,” said Josh Windass.

Other notable Rangers figures to acknowledge James Tavernier on Instagram include Steven Gerrard, Michael Beale, Nico Raskin, Joe Aribo, Connor Goldson, Jack Butland, Calvin Bassey, Borna Barisic. 

Further reaction to this massive Rangers news will come on Thursday, before attention rightly turns to the massive game against Motherwell on Sunday.
