Bojan Miovski future at Rangers in doubt after latest Ibrox setback

  • Bojan Miovski’s Rangers revival stalls after half-time withdrawal against Motherwell.
  • Danny Rohl’s tactical shifts and Chermiti form push Miovski down pecking order.
  • Striker faces uncertain future amid reduced trust and changing formations.

The brief resurgence of Bojan Miovski at Rangers now appears to have stalled, with the striker’s long-term future at the club increasingly uncertain following another frustrating afternoon at Ibrox.

The North Macedonian forward had looked to have revived his Rangers career with three goals in two substitute appearances.

This included a brace in the 6-3 win away to Falkirk and a goal against Dundee United the week prior.

That run earned him a rare start against Motherwell, but the opportunity quickly slipped away.

Rangers found themselves 2-0 down at half-time, and Miovski was hooked at the break.

Once again, a clear indication of Danny Rohl’s diminishing trust in the 26-year-old at key moments.

Danny Rohl’s lack of reliance on forward

The German had previously opted to leave him on the bench during back-to-back Old Firm matches in which the Gers needed a winning goal.

The decision came despite Miovski’s recent return to form off the bench, where he had spoken about his determination to contribute.

Post-Falkirk the forward had spoken about his hopes for the run-in and making the most of his limited chances.

“Every striker wants to score goals and win titles, so of course I would like to help the team to win the title,” he admitted.

“I’m ready, if I start or come second half or come on for five minutes, I’m always ready to give my all, it doesn’t matter how many minutes I play.

“The league is like a marathon, it’s not one game, so of course you have ups and downs.

“Now we’re in a situation where we’re one point behind, so consistency is the key.”

Tactical shift leaves Bojan Miovski exposed

Sunday’s defeat also highlighted wider tactical uncertainty in Rangers’ attacking structure.

Youssef Chermiti, Miovski’s direct competition, scored twice as Rangers fought back to 2-2, further strengthening his case for a starting role.

With Ryan Naderi still injured but potentially returning before the end of the season, Rohl could soon have three striking options available, pushing Miovski further down the pecking order.

Rangers had previously found success using a 4-2-2-2 system, notably in their win over Hearts in February.

However, after being overrun in midfield against Motherwell, and with Hearts expected to line up with a midfield three, Rohl may revert to a more balanced 4-3-3 shape for the return fixture at Tynecastle.

That system would likely favour Chermiti as the lone forward, further limiting Miovski’s opportunities, particularly if Naderi is able to make the bench.

After showing promise in flashes, Miovski now faces an uncertain role in a squad where competition is intensifying and tactical priorities are shifting.

With selection decisions tightening at a critical stage of the season, his future involvement at Rangers appears increasingly bleak.
