- Danny Rohl was speaking ahead of Monday’s visit to Hearts at Tynecastle
- Youssef Chermiti hailed by boss for his ‘big character’
- Victory vital for Rangers to keep their title hopes alive
Rangers manager Danny Rohl has praised forward Youssef Chermiti as he looks forward to Monday’s meeting with Hearts at Tynecastle.
The German referred to the 21-year-old’s “big character” with the last three matches seeing the Portuguese chalk up three goals and two assists.
Rohl said: “Youssef Chermiti had a really difficult time in October and November. He is involved in so much on the pitch, but also off.
“He is a big character, and he works very hard and I am really happy to have him here.
“In the big games, he steps up but he always gives his all and I hope he scores more goals from now until the end of the season.”
Rohl’s comments shows the potential he sees in Chermiti to deliver
These quotes from Rohl on Chermiti, not only on his work ethic but his ability to step up in important matches for the club highlights the manager’s belief in him.
Rohl also went on to comment on the forward’s contributions in recent matches and how he believes that being “outstanding in training” is helping the Portuguese translate that onto the pitch.
He also said: “You see it in every single game at the moment, he scores a lot of goals now, he’s involved in a lot of dangerous situations.”
It is evident that the 21-year-old is earning Rohl’s trust with a strong presence in the last three matches having directly contributed to five goals, whether that be scoring or assisting.
Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see Chermiti feature in the German’s lineup as Rangers visit Hearts with their title hopes on the line.
Last match against Hearts evidence of what Chermiti can do
Another reason to argue for Chermiti’s position in the starting lineup on Monday evening is his performance in the last game against the league leaders.
The Portuguese scored a hat-trick as he helped Rangers fight back from a goal behind as the Gers cruised back to win 4-2.
Chermiti’s heroics that day meant that Rohl’s men closed the distance to Hearts in the league standings.
And the forward may well have to repeat that in three days time in order to ensure Rangers are still in contention with three games to go.
There has been much criticism levelled at the 21-year-old since he arrived at Ibrox in the summer and providing the goods would go a long way in reminding supporters what he can do.
