- The 21-year-old has scored four goals against Hearts this season
- A goal on Monday would see him break four season player record
- He would become sixth Rangers’ player to score five against one club
Youssef Chermiti has been a shining light for Rangers in the last few weeks as they are embroiled in a title race for the ages.
Despite the potentially damaging defeat against Motherwell last weekend, the Portuguese scored a goal and provided an assist.
This means that Chermiti has contributed in Rangers’ last three league matches and that will do wonders for the 21-year-old’s confidence.
Chermiti is in form ahead of the match against Hearts and they are a club that he is no stranger to scoring against.
Chermiti is one goal from equalling player record set four years ago
The former Everton striker’s hat-trick in the victory against Hearts three months ago increased his goal tally against the Jambos to four.
This means that if Chermiti continues his form on Monday with another goal he will become the first Rangers player since Fashion Sakala to score five goals against a single club.
In Sakala’s case, it was in the 2021/22 season and Motherwell were the victim of his attacking ability.
Not only would scoring against the league leaders for the fifth time see him equal the Zambian’s feat but signal that he is becoming the regular and consistent goalscoring machine that is expected at Rangers.
Achievement would see Portuguese join company of a select few
If Chermiti does score under the lights at Tynecastle in two days time he will, according to Scotland’s Coefficient become just the sixth Rangers player to achieve this record in 26 years.
Since 2000, Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller, Scott Arfield, Claudio Caniggia and Sakala have all scored five or more goals against a club.
Boyd scored six against Kilmarnock (2006/07) and Dundee United (2009/10) as well as five against Hamilton and Inverness (2008/09).
In regards to Miller, it was five against St Mirren (2000/01) and the same total for Caniggia against Dunfermline (2002/03) and Arfield against Motherwell (2018/19).
Achieving this personal milestone would add Chermiti to this exclusive group.
Boyd and Miller are players who stepped up in key moments for Rangers and if Chermiti joins them on this list, it would add weight to Danny Rohl’s praise of the youngster.

Youssef Chermiti has had to endure criticism in his first season at Rangers.
A goal against Hearts would not only see him achieve a record seldom reached but add more evidence to support the notion that Rangers have a player who steps up when it matters.
