- Danny Rohl is reportedly ‘on the shortlist’ for the VFL Wolfsburg job
- The Bundesliga club are in a battle to avoid relegation from top-flight
- Links to Germany highlights his work at Ibrox despite title collapse
Rangers manager Danny Rohl is on the shortlist to be the next Wolfsburg manager, according to The Scottish Sun.
The report states that the Bundesliga club, who are currently in a relegation battle will be on the hunt for a new boss with Dieter Hecking set for a director of football role next season.
And the Rangers manager has reached the top of their list to replace him.
Interest in Rohl highlights work at Ibrox despite title collapse
It is arguably a shock that there are reports flying around of the 37-year-old being linked elsewhere after only seven months in the Ibrox dugout.
However, Rohl has to be commended for how he hauled the Ibrox club into a title race that looked dead and buried when he replaced Russell Martin last October.
Yes, Rangers’ title hopes are all but over after Monday’s result which turned up the heat on the German but he holds a strong league record.
Rohl only has three defeats in 27 league matches as Rangers’ boss with a total of 58 points, four less than Hearts (54) and two more than Celtic (56).
This shows that even though the title race has petered out in the split, the impact that Rohl has had on Rangers in such a short period of time is being noticed.
Rohl has already been linked with a move to Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg have been long-term admirers of Rohl as he was apparently on their radar as far back as last summer when he was still at Sheffield Wednesday.
It was reported that the Owls had missed out on compensation worth £1 million but they wanted more for his services, hence why the move fell through.
What Rohl achieved at Wednesday was enough for the Volkswagen-owned club to bring him into the conversation when searching for their next manager.
With the club in danger of being relegated to the second division, it appears the German has reentered their thoughts.
And it seems that masterminding the turnaround at Rangers this season has made his credentials even stronger in their eyes.

It remains to be seen how or even if this report develops over the next few days.
What is clear is that the Rangers boss has a strong pedigree, especially from his time as an assistant at Bayern Munich.
However, it seems that Danny Rohl is content at Rangers and with planning for his first full season at Ibrox underway, there are no signs of any plans to depart.
