Once the dust settles on the last game of the season at Falkirk tomorrow, Danny Rohl and Rangers will move into a leadership void, unless an intervention is made.
The supporters are angry and full of emotion at how the last four games have unfolded.
It is bad enough that the title bid faltered miserably, but it’s the extent of the capitulation that cuts deep.
Beyond that, the high-profile James Tavernier controversy has capped a dismal end to the season.
The club captain provided his version of events in statement released last night, and now the manager has made a further response, at Friday’s press conference.
However, valid questions are mounting on the German’s leadership credentials, as well as his decision-making.
Danny Rohl and Rangers – what happens next?
The call to deprive Tavernier of a final start at Ibrox was the wrong one.
It contributed to a situation that could and should have been avoided.
The Hibs game was meaningless in the bigger picture. Of course, the objective was to win, but that didn’t happen.
The outcome is that Rohl’s position is further undermined in the eyes of the supporters, even if Tav didn’t cover himself in glory.
Even if Rangers win against Falkirk, the frustration and bad feelings will linger.
Davie Edgar of Heart and Hand Podcast summed up the issue with the following comment.
From the outside, it appears that Rangers are backing Rohl.
There will be doubts, and the Hibs result as well as the Tavernier incident won’t have gone unnoticed.
The fans need clarity and leadership from the club
Some fans are split between backing the outgoing captain and others decrying the mentality and lack of delivery from within the dressing room after a miserable season.
We need clarity and that will require an intervention from Andrew Cavenagh or Jim Gillespie.
The chairman or CEO needs to map out the plan for recovery in the coming weeks.
If it’s Rohl, tell us.
If no communication follows, it could suggest that a change is in the offing.
2025/26 has been a terrible season for Rangers.
We need to know how change will be implemented, and it needs to be effective.
