Rangers are said to have agreed a fee with Partizan Belgrade for the transfer of Vanja Dragojevic.
As reported by Mozzart Sport, the clubs have thrashed out an agreement, comprising an initial fee, bonus payment and a share of a future sale.
Rangers are said to have paid €5,500,000 (£4.64m) up front for Dragojevic, with a further half million in add-ons.
Central midfield has been designated as a priority position for Derek McInnes to upgrade, but it remains to be seen if the capture of the Serbian will mean the end of the chase for Jens Hjerto-Dahl, given how long the club has been interested in the young Norwegian and his significant potential.
Vanja Dragojevic set to arrive in Glasgow to sign for Rangers
It has been reported that Vanja Dragojevic will arrive in Scotland tomorrow to undergo a medical and complete the deal.
The 20-year-old only made his breakthrough into the Partizan first team in March last year, but seized the opportunity to establish himself and went on to make 52 appearances for the Gravediggers.
The deep-lying playmaker scored four goals and assisted five in the games he played.
He will have plenty of time on his side to develop and further improve, as much as he will be expected to contribute in the coming months.
The arrival of Dragojevic is the next step in a complete midfield overhaul following the arrivals of Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin.
Derek McInnes Rangers midfield overhaul continues
High-profile exits are set to follow, particularly after Nico Raskin’s World Cup exploits, and further uncertainty over the likes of Mo Diomande, Connor Barron, and even Tochi Chukwuani.
Looking at the bigger picture, middle to front, you would also think that Nedim Bajrami and Thelo Aasgaard will be surplus to requirements.
The Norway international enhanced his standing and prospects with a fine solo goal against France at the World Cup, but it’s difficult to see how he will command a regular starting slot in a Derek McInnes Rangers team.
The club needs to push on with the required sales to balance the squad amid further new arrivals. A central defender and right wing option are both required next, with just two weeks until the start of the Scottish Premiership campaign.
