Rangers have upgraded their opening offer for Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl to £7 million, signalling accelerated negotiations as Cardiff City emerge as a rival bidder.
According to fresh reports from multiple outlets, Derek McInnes’ side initially tabled a £5.3 million bid that was swiftly rejected by the Norwegian club. Tromso have now received the strengthened offer, sitting closer to their £7.5 million–£8.5 million asking price and positioning Rangers as frontrunners in the race for the 24-year-old midfielder.
McInnes’ Four-Man Blueprint
The Hjerto-Dahl pursuit forms part of a wider summer recruitment strategy being pursued at Ibrox. Rangers are understood to be preparing moves for multiple midfield targets simultaneously, with the Tromso situation now at a critical juncture. Turkish clubs have also registered interest, but Rangers’ upgraded financial offer and proven pathway into European football provide clear competitive advantage.
The Norwegian midfielder would add further depth to McInnes’ engine room, following this summer’s arrivals of Ben Godfrey and Dan Neil. Sources close to the negotiations suggest the club view Hjerto-Dahl as a versatile presence capable of flexibility across the midfield—a profile that aligns with Rangers’ tactical evolution heading into the Premiership campaign.
Cardiff City’s entry into the race has injected genuine urgency into discussions. However, Rangers’ willingness to move beyond their initial valuation suggests the 24-year-old remains a priority target ahead of the season’s opening fixture away to Dundee United on 31 July.
