Rangers Transfer Briefing: Danilo Nears Botafogo Exit, Mavididi Talks Open

Rangers are facing significant summer business at both ends of the pitch, with Brazilian side Botafogo closing in on a deal for striker Danilo while the Ibrox club have opened talks over a move for Leicester City winger Stephy Mavididi.

According to a fresh update from Sky Sports, carried and corroborated independently by Brazilian outlets FogãoNET and Antenados no Futebol, talks between Botafogo and representatives for Danilo are at an advanced stage. The 27-year-old striker was left out of Derek McInnes’ pre-season squad for Rangers’ training camp in Spain, with Botafogo’s board keen to bring him back to Brazilian football following Chris Ramos’ expected departure to Real Oviedo. Danilo, who joined Rangers from Feyenoord in 2023, still has two years left on his Ibrox contract.

Derek McInnes Eyes Leicester Business On Two Fronts

According to journalist Mark Hendry, Rangers have already opened talks with Leicester City over a deal for winger Stephy Mavididi, with the Foxes holding out for around £7million as they look to balance the books following relegation to League One. The 28-year-old scored 14 goals and assisted six more in his debut season at the King Power Stadium, and McInnes is understood to be assessing wide attacking options over the coming days.

The interest comes as John Souttar edges closer to an Ibrox exit in the opposite direction, with Leicester named as the leading contenders for the centre-back. A reunion with former Rangers boss Russell Martin, now in charge at the King Power Stadium, would also see Souttar link up again with brother Harry, who joined the Foxes from Stoke City for £15million in January 2023.

With Youssef Chermiti having already made clear his own long-term future lies at Ibrox, Rangers’ remaining attacking reshuffle looks set to centre on Danilo’s departure and any incoming business at Ibrox. No fee has yet been agreed for either Mavididi or Souttar, with around three weeks left before the Scottish Premiership season resumes.
