Rangers Women have been handed a significant summer reset after confirming that Lizzie Arnot will retire from professional football.
The club’s official squad update confirmed Arnot will step away after a decorated spell at Rangers that included a league title, two Scottish Cups and three Sky Sports Cups. Her exit is not isolated. Mia McAulay, Camille Lafaix, Li Mengwen and Quinty Sabajo are also moving on, while Soffia Kelly, Jess Pegram and Kim Shin-Ji have returned to their parent clubs after loan spells.
Leanne Crichton Faces Immediate Rangers Depth Test
For Leanne Crichton, the timing is blunt. Rangers finished two points behind Hearts last season and, as the SWPL fixture release confirmed, they begin the new campaign away to Montrose before a Broadwood meeting with newly promoted Spartans and an early trip to Hearts.
That makes the contract talks now underway with other first-team players more than routine housekeeping. Crichton has already made clear Rangers intend to challenge for every trophy available, but replacing Arnot’s big-game pedigree and the wider departing group will shape how quickly that ambition survives contact with the fixture list.
Read Rangers recently assessed the European test facing Crichton’s side. This squad update adds another layer: before Rangers can chase silverware, they must rebuild the dressing-room core that helped keep them in the title race.
