Rangers Handed Major Boost As Cardiff City’s Hjerto-Dahl Bid Rejected

Rangers have been handed a timely boost in their pursuit of Jens Hjerto-Dahl after Tromso rejected a rival £5.5million bid from Cardiff City for the Norway Under-21 international.

According to a fresh update from Sky Sports News, Hjerto-Dahl has made his preference for a move to Ibrox clear, with Cardiff’s opening offer knocked back by the Eliteserien leaders just as Rangers continue their own long-running pursuit of the 20-year-old midfielder. The Rangers transfer window continues to intensify, and the Daily Record also reports Rangers had an earlier £5.3million bid turned down by Tromso last week, leaving both English and Scottish suitors to reassess their positions.

Derek McInnes Faces Fresh Urgency In Hjerto-Dahl Chase

Tromso are understood to be holding out for a fee in excess of £6.8million plus add-ons, with the midfielder still under contract at the Norwegian club. Cardiff’s rejected approach leaves Derek McInnes with a narrow window to firm up Rangers’ own interest before rivals return with an improved offer, with the full detail of Rangers’ pursuit covered in our Jens Hjerto-Dahl transfer explainer.

Besiktas have also been credited with interest in the towering midfielder, but Hjerto-Dahl has previously made his stance clear, telling reporters, as relayed by GlasgowWorld: “I still prefer Rangers over Besiktas.” Sky Sports News’ update suggests that preference now extends to Cardiff too, with the player understood to favour regular football and European competition at Ibrox over a move to the Championship.

Rangers have chased Hjerto-Dahl for much of the summer, and with Cardiff’s initial approach rebuffed, Ibrox chiefs will hope that same determination from the player keeps the door open while a fee is thrashed out.
