Celta Vigo have launched a late bid to hijack Rangers’ move for PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech.

Sources in the Netherlands had briefed that although Rangers were thought to be closing in on an agreement with PSV, other clubs were waiting in the background. That situation has come to light this morning.

Spain or Scotland. La Liga or the Scottish Premiership.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Moroccan was swayed by what’s on offer in the north-west of Spain.

Rangers have work to do to secure Couhaib Driouech

As above, the update was provided by Rik Elfrink in Eindhoven, while Mounir Boualin has said that:

“The speedy forward is said to have a slight preference for a transfer to Celta.”

First it was the cooling of interest in Fares Ghedjemis, now the bid for Driouech is in doubt.

Rangers need quality on the wings as soon as possible, in addition to the recent arrival of Daisuke Yokota.

Ghedjemis plays off the right, like the Japanese, while Driouech operates on the other side.

In last night’s game against Jagiellonia, the second half in particular showed the dire need for another option on the right flank.

Yokota was withdrawn at half-time, but he showed enough to be encouraged.

If not Driouech, Rangers must move quickly to land an alternative target for a key position.
