Rangers vs Jagiellonia: Bialystok Striker Issues Ibrox Warning to the Gers

Nik Prelec playing for Jagiellonia Bialystok ahead of the Europa League tie with Rangers

Rangers vs Jagiellonia is heading for a tense finale at Ibrox, and the visitors are in no mood to roll over.

Ahead of Thursday’s Europa League third qualifying round second leg, Jagiellonia Bialystok striker Nik Prelec has claimed the Gers “played exactly the way we expected” in the first leg, and warned it “will be a fight to qualify” when the tie resumes in Glasgow.

According to comments relayed by The Rangers Review, Prelec was unmoved by the Light Blues’ first-leg display.

It is a pointed message given the state of the tie. Derek McInnes’s side trail after a 2-1 defeat in Poland and now face an Ibrox rescue mission on 13 August.

That reverse also delivered a couple of unwanted club records, so the pressure on the Gers to respond could hardly be clearer.

What Prelec’s verdict means for Rangers vs Jagiellonia

Prelec’s confidence is a marker laid down, but McInnes insists the Gers always had the return leg in mind.

Speaking to Rangers TV in Poland, the manager explained he did not empty the tank in the first leg: “I know it’s a two-legged thing and we don’t go and throw the kitchen sink at it because we know we can win the game next week at Ibrox.”

Bold words. Now his players have to back them up.

Overturn the deficit under the lights and the mood around the club is transformed at a stroke. Slip up, and a stuttering start to the season takes a serious turn.

If ever there was a night for Ibrox to roar the Light Blues on, this is it. Over to you, Rangers.
