Rangers vs Jagiellonia has taken an intriguing turn ahead of Thursday’s return leg at Ibrox, with the Polish side arriving in Glasgow on the back of a shock defeat.
Jagiellonia, who lead the Europa League tie 2-1 from the first leg, were beaten 2-0 by Widzew Lodz on Sunday.
That reverse was their first league defeat of the season, sealed by a two-minute collapse just 72 hours after they had seen off the Gers.
From what we witnessed last Thursday, Rangers should fancy their chances of salvaging the tie at Ibrox, but Derek McInnes’ team will need to raise their level.
With both sides going into the decider off the back of defeats and poor defending, we could be in for quite a few goals!
What it means for Rangers vs Jagiellonia at Ibrox
The timing of this Jagiellonia slip could hardly be better for Derek McInnes.
Rangers must overturn a one-goal deficit on Thursday, and they do so against opponents whose confidence has taken a knock and whose head coach is suddenly facing questions.
As The Scotsman reported, a defensive lapse handed Widzew Lodz both goals inside two minutes, ending Jagiellonia’s unbeaten domestic start in their third game of the campaign.
It provides encouragement for the Light Blues, who have endured a stuttering opening to the campaign under McInnes.
The Gers drew 1-1 at Dundee United on the opening weekend before McInnes was left facing an Ibrox rescue mission following the 2-1 first-leg loss in Bialystok. A fast start under the lights is required to turn the tie on its head.
Rangers vs Jagiellonia resumes at Ibrox this Thursday, 13 August, with a place in the Europa League play-off round at stake.
