Ajax, Copenhagen, Brighton, Shamrock Rovers…projected Conference League seedings could yet work in Rangers favour

With a look at the projected Conference League seedings, the competition isn’t quite the dead-end that it’s made out to be for Rangers.

With Jablonec standing in the way of qualification for the league phase, the Czech side will pose another tricky challenge, on a similar level to Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Progression can’t be taken for granted, given Rangers’ and Jablonec’s respective starts to the domestic campaigns, but there are some big names and interesting ties that could lie in wait.

It’s worth having a look at the projected Conference League seedings.

What is the Conference League format?

Similar to how the Champions League and Europa League now operate, the Conference League has also adopted the singular ‘league phase’ system.

In the third tier competition, 36 clubs will qualify, but the main difference is that each side only plays six games.

Six fixtures against six different opponents. Three games at home, three away.

Who could Rangers play in the Conference League?

Again, we’re not getting carried away.

Jablonec comes first, but the bigger picture is worth having a look at.

It’s understandable why some fans have no time for the Conference League, and only want to focus on building a credible Scottish Premiership campaign, but certain opponents would change minds.

Rangers would play one team from each pot.

How about a set of fixtures that includes Ajax, Copenhagen, Brighton, Riga, and Iberia 1999 (who will face Jagiellonia in the Europa League Playoff).

There’s a lot of football to be played, with Europa and Conference League Playoffs to decide the full list of particpants in both competitions.

First up, its Jablonec at Ibrox on Thursday.
