Closing The Door On Ibrox Return

The veteran defender ended his memorable 11-year stay in Glasgow earlier this summer.

Despite tentative links with Newcastle United, some pundits had touted an emergency return to Rangers.

With backline injuries mounting under manager Derek McInnes, talk of a short-term reunion had gained traction among supporters seeking experienced cover.

Pundits Suggested Short Term Defensive Cover

Ally McCoist recently backed calls from Andy Halliday for a temporary deal.

Explaining his stance on a potential recall, McCoist stated: “I’d agree with Andy Halliday on bringing James Tavernier back. We’re struggling in full back positions. We’re definitely struggling in full back positions.”

He added: “It wouldn’t be the daftest thing in the world, Tavernier has been a fabulous servant to the club. Fabulous servant in the club.”

McCoist also remarked: “I don’t know, a six-month contract, just have a look, see because as I say, the start of the season has been poor and it’s a struggle at this moment in time.”

New chapter for Tav, beyond Rangers

Maccabi Tel Aviv appears an unlikely destination for James Tavernier, but it’s where the Yorkshireman will resume his career, post Rangers.

He had been in talks with Charlotte FC in MLS, while some clubs in Italy were said to be interested.

Instead, he will play in the Israeli league once the move is completed.

There will be background noise and criticism of his choice given the political situation in the Middle East, but the decision lies with the player.

At 34, there should be at least a couple of years left in the tank for James Tavernier, and his next chapter is set to unfold.
