Rangers manager Derek McInnes must offload Nicolas Raskin before advancing a January transfer for Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson after summer negotiations collapsed.
The Scotland international reached informal terms to join the Ibrox club before the deadline, but a steep valuation and a crowded squad halted the move. Rangers blocked Raskin from joining Besiktas, directly removing the tactical space and finances required to secure Ferguson.
A winter agreement now relies entirely on resolving the Belgian midfielder’s future in Glasgow to accommodate their January transfer strategy.
Bologna Midfielder Reached Informal Terms
Bologna initially demanded £17m for the midfielder, though that asking price could fall this winter ahead of his contract expiring in 2028.
Speaking on Open Goal, Derek Ferguson outlined his son’s situation via Ibrox News.
“The thing with Lewis was, he agreed everything [for Rangers move]. I’ve said that it was time for Lewis to change. he’s been there for four years at Bologna and it’s time for a new challenge..” he said.
Ferguson added: “He was up for going to play under McInnes. He loves Del and has a lot of respect for him. He was prepared (to go).”
Raskin Blocks Midfield Roster Space
McInnes bolstered his midfield extensively over the summer, complicating latest squad reinforcement plans. Until Raskin departs, Ferguson remains beyond reach.
