Craig McLeish St Mirren Manager looks on during the Premier Sports Cup Group C match at the SMISA Stadium, Paisley 26/07/2026

St Mirren manager Craig McLeish praised his squad after a stoppage-time strike from substitute Bojan Miovski sealed a narrow 1-0 win for Rangers at Ibrox.

Derek McInnes is rebuilding the forward line after club captain Lawrence Shankland was ruled out for three to four months with a hamstring tear.

The Rangers manager watched Miovski capitalise on a Ryan Naderi flick-on in the dying moments to lob goalkeeper Jacob Chapman and register his first goal of the season.

Setting A Consistent Standard

Speaking to The St Mirren Mercury, McLeish focused on the visitors’ resilience.

“I thought we were great, I really enjoyed a lot about our performance,” he said.

“The bit that we have to look at is that it has to be our standard against every opposition, no matter who we play, no matter where we play, that’s the levels that we’ve set.”

Rewarding A Direct Approach

The hosts initially struggled to break down the Paisley side, with Rangers goalkeeper Ivor Pandur required to make a crucial save to deny Fraser Taylor in the second half.

McInnes praised a direct tactical approach when St Mirren restricted space late in the match.

Speaking to Rangers.co.uk, he added: “And when St. Mirren started to come onto us, and there were fewer spaces to play, there’s nothing wrong with playing forward, like we did for the goal.”
