Rangers Reconfigure Attack Following Daisuke Yokota Surgery

Manager Derek McInnes of Heart of Midlothian during the William Hill Premiership match at Celtic Park, Glasgow 16/05/2026

Rangers winger Daisuke Yokota will undergo groin surgery in London on Thursday, leaving him sidelined for up to three months.

Manager Derek McInnes must navigate mounting injury concerns as the Japanese attacker joins captain Lawrence Shankland on the long-term absentee list.

Shankland requires a hamstring operation from the same specialist and faces a four-month rehabilitation period to minimise the risk of a recurrence.

Wingers Djeidi Gassama, Badredine Bouanani, and Findlay Curtis will now compete for starting roles to supply consistent service from wide areas. These necessary adjustments force the manager to fast-track attacking alternatives to support the strikers across the upcoming schedule.

Medical scans on Monday revealed summer arrival Yokota tore a muscle directly off the tendon.

Speaking to the East Lothian Courier, McInnes outlined the severity of the setback while confirming the consecutive surgical procedures.

“It’s such an unpredictable injury, that the surgeon has decided that it needs surgery as well, so he’ll be out for a significant time as well, probably reaching to two or three months as well with that,” he said.
