Rangers have appointed former captain Barry Ferguson to manage their legends squad at the revived Tennent’s Sixes tournament in October.
The indoor six-a-side competition returns to Braehead Arena on October 3 and 4, featuring all 12 William Hill Premiership clubs.
Participating former players will wear this season’s official club kits during the weekend event.
The original tournament captured a generation of Scottish football fans during its nine-year run from 1984 until 1993.
Organisers have introduced modern twists to the format, including the return of the sin-bin and bonus points for penalty shootout victories.
The Saturday schedule features three regionalised groups of four, with the top two teams and the two best third-placed sides advancing.
Returning To Ibrox Duties
Ferguson won five league titles, five Scottish Cups and five League Cups across two decorated spells at Ibrox Stadium.
The former midfielder also returned to manage the club on an interim basis in February 2025, leading Rangers to a European quarter-final.
His new legends dugout role arrives as Derek McInnes navigates the current squad’s development, with the club’s midfield structure dependent on Nicolas Raskin’s potential January exit, after no acceptable bid was received for the Belgian international over the summer.
Domestic recruitment plans continue to evolve after the club was recently given intimation by Lewis Ferguson ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.
There is rightful doubt if such a move will materialise for a few years, given the finances involved, overall.
Rangers will announce the complete legends squad over the coming days, while Derek McInnes’ team travel to face Celtic in their next Premiership fixture on Sunday, September 20.
